Meet #CreatepreneurAfrica Karley Mettle
Tell us what drives you? What is your true passion in life?
I am driven by my purpose in life which is to use my knowledge and ability to communicate, coupled with other capabilities to impact my immediate and away environment. My true passion lies in Communication, inspiring youth and developing concepts that will impact and transform lives positively.
How did you find your passion and how old were you?
I used to participate in school debates from primary school and also emerged best pupil in English Essay writings at age 10. Additionally, I would recite poems, sing in school choirs and represent my school on public platforms with other schools in competitions and also at church.
My mum did play a vital role by exposing me to runway modelling, cameras and the limelight at age 9. As I grew, I started developing other interests like event organization which I seriously pursued in the University.
What about your passion appeals to you the most?
I am passionate about the impact my craft makes on several lives especially young ladies aspiring to be in the same industry and beyond. The ease at which I’m able to deliver also appeals to me
What drove you to make money from your passions?
I had just completed an internship program with a media house where I excelled a few years ago. However, the organization was unable to employ staff immediately. I was also unsuccessful in gaining admission to a very renowned Communications School; Consequently, I was extremely disappointed. With the desire to be independent, I engaged in basic trading to make ends meet and not demand excessively from my very supportive parents. Simultaneously, I had great feedback from friends at church where I hosted frequently on Sundays, colleagues and others whom had noticed me display at events. With unequivocal conviction, I discussed the idea of commercializing the art with my Pastor, “Reverend Xavier Fiadjoe-ICGC His Light Sanctuary, BDE- Accra, Ghana). He gave me his full support and Voila!!! That was the beginning of greater works!!! !
When was the first time you were paid for your passion?
This was in June 2016; a voice over commercial I did for Touton Smart Climate cocoa; as a result of hosting TedxAccra 2016.
What kept you going when you thought about giving up?
As a person of Faith, I constantly had God’s word ordering and directing my steps, keeping me stronger and propelling me. Of course my parents and well-meaning family and friends kept supporting me. I was also convicted about whatever I did because the future was bright.
7. What motivates you every day to be even more successful?
I cannot fail myself, family, friends, nation, current and future generation nor the God who gave me my purpose and life assignment. I believe many destinies are connected to mine. People’s livelihoods and survival may depend on me to a large extent. I have a mandate to see people become prosperous and make meaning out of their lives. That’s my motivation for success.
What do you have to say to all of the people who doubted you?
Interestingly, I do not keep record or account of people who doubt me because I have a positive perspective to life. Contrarily, it was the vice-versa sometime back when I doubted my own capabilities but others believed and encouraged me. I appreciate everyone who has and still plays such a role in my life. But if anyone ever doubted me, I would just say thanks to them because they pushed me to strive higher.
What advice do you give to aspiring creatives who look up to you?
- Strive for Greatness.
2. Dream, Big, Start small.
3. Be Consistent and Persistent.
4. Be faithful in little things and Greater shall be added.
5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and He shall direct your path. (Proverbs 3: 5-6)
